I too got the error when trying to change the service to disabled from automatic.To disable the service: 1. Since it has been a few days, please post a new Deckard's System Scanner Log which includes the HijackThis log. If you change something in MSCONFIG you get a message saying you need to administrator, but the change works anyway. That should run msconfig with the necessary privileges.

The user account I am logged on with is an administrator account, but is the fact the username is not "administrator" causing the problem?
