Fortunately, she did have RegBack and I followed your example and got her computer backup and running. I turned the computer off. Copying back the hive files worked for me via a Live CD. This is the best time to run these apps because any viruses that try to disable them in normal mode will likely be disabled at this point. Immediately after the computer is powered on or restarted (usually after you hear your computer beep), tap the F8 key in 1 second intervals. Neither does checking the disk for errors.
